Belton students advance to nationals in the Reflections Program - Art entries from two Belton High School students have advanced to the National PTA level of judging in the 2013-2014 PTA Reflections Program. BHS Senior, Melody Walton, received first place at the state level for her photography entry and Junior, Erika Rogers, was awarded first place at state for her entry in the film/video production category. Belton School District had six entries place at state overall this year. A total of 68 students throughout the district created original works in literature, visual arts, photography, musical composition, dance choreography and film/video production in response to this years theme, Believe, Dream, Inspire. The following students won awards at the state level: Middle/Jr. Division ( Grade 6 - 8) Jaylyn Stephens, 3rd Place, Photography - (6th grade, Mill Creek) Ashleigh Waggoner, 3rd Place, Visual Arts - (6th grade, Mill Creek) Senior Division (Grade 9-12) Erika Rogers, 1st Place, Film/Video Production - (11th grade, BHS) Melody Walton, 1st Place, Photography - (12th grade, BHS) Melody Walton, Honorable Mention, Photography - (12th grade, BHS) Shannon Coupland, 4th Place, Music Composition - (9th grade, BFC) The students will be recognized for their outstanding achievements during the Missouri State PTA Reflections Showcase event in Columbia, MO on Saturday, April 26, at 1 p.m. and their artwork will be on display. All students who qualified for state will receive a special ribbon from Belton PTA Council at end of the year awards assemblies. The first place entries have advanced to the National PTA for consideration at that level of judging. The names of national award recipients will be announced in May.
