Ben Petit - French Speed Foil Competition Last weekend the first Speed Foil competition in Port Saint Louis du Rhône, France took place. Organizers chose the spot of the fastest kite boarder Alexandre Caizergues and the day of the French national holiday to hold the first of this kind of competition! Equipped with GPS GT 31, the 30 competitors launched during 2h30 to 3h on a run of 250m or 500m : it depended on the wind direction. At the end of each round, the race director recovered GPS and showed results : only the average of the two best times of each rider was kept. With a 38.85 knots Vmax achieved by 5m Edge just before the competition, I was secretly hoping to win this race... About 3 days, 4 rounds were able to be run. I finally finished 1st Master and 4th in Scratch. Very close to the 3rd Jean-Guillaume Rivaud the guy that won the first San Francisco foil race in last October Maxime Nocher 2nd Axel Mazella 1st! Alex Caizergues finished 7th Sophie Caillet, the Ozone French rider, finished first among girls The last day in wind of 12-15 knots, I decided to test the 12m Chrono...I was curious to know if this kite, so powerful in race, could score in a speed event! But it was difficult to know which kite we used for the two best times! In 3h, you use about 3 different kites! So I made my 2 first runs with 12m Chrono, just to test…The sensation of speed was immediate! Later I decided to change kite and I decided to let go of everything in the next run! But I fell and fractured my 3rd metatarsal…Game over, I went with my GPS and thought this last race will be my discard. But not really because I made a round of 4! :) What a crazy day ! Now, I rest well to repair the fracture before the second stage of the Foil Gold Cup in Switzerland Ben Petit
