Ben Swann shares a bit about a journalists experience in Gaza. I personally struggle to come to terms with this conflict. From a libertarian perspective, I understand Israels argument that they are only defending themselves from the violent actions of Hamas. On the other hand, I understand the arguments laid forth by the Palestinians and even the Hamas leaders, that they have been living under violence from Israel for years, prisoners within Gaza, disallowed freedom of movement or commerce. They argue that their own aggression is a defense against the actions of Israel. My sympathies go to the innocent civilians of Gaza, who are trapped in the 100 square miles or so of this ghettoized region, who are subject to this confinement, not necessarily able to stop the actions of their Hamas neighbors, and yet subject to the terror and death confronting them in the retaliation against those actions. It seems to me that Israel is behaving like a tyrant and a bully in this case. They are clearly strong, richer, and in the position of power. It appears that they are taking that position to lock these people in a cage and beat them. I am sure this is a very unfashionable viewpoint, but I cant seem to see it any other way. It seems to me that it is imperative that Israel engage the golden rule, and reach a hand of friendship and support to the peaceful and innocent civilians trapped in Gaza, assuming there are any people left there who will accept an olive branch after so much brutality and death.
