Ben Utecht, ex-NFL player with memory loss, pens song for wife, daughters Former NFL tight end Ben Utecht is only 33, but hes already suffering from memory loss, which he says is the result of concussions. Its prompted him to send a message to his wife, Karyn, and three daughters. Hes done so through a song. In a CBSSports story, Utecht talked about composing, You Will Always Be My Girls, which he wrote with producer Rick Barron, Tommy Barbarella and Dave Barry. He filmed a music video with his wife for the tune, which is posted on his YouTube channel. Utecht had five documented concussions from 2004-08, playing for the Colts and Bengals. The song stems from his concerns that someday he wont be able recognize his wife and daughters, so he wrote the song from the perspective of an aging football player struggling to remember family members. It has really become an anthem -- not only for me, but so many that are affected by brain disease, which is 1 in 6, Utecht said. People dont realize that. One in six are affected by brain disease. Its really been a song of hope for people.
