Benatia pulled out of squad after Manchester United meeting Posted by SPORT WITNESS on August 22, 2014 at 20:20 in Sport Witness Football View Discussions Like Share Twitter There looks to be another twist in the Mehdi Benatia saga which has been running its cause throughout this transfer window. After Roma’s’ meeting with Manchester United the player has been pulled from the Rudi Garcia’s squad for this weekend’s friendly match against AEK Athens. TMW have reported that Benatia has been left out of tomorrow’s game and his absence isn’t down to injury. It has been claimed that Garcia has ruled out the defender due to the speculation surrounding the player’s future in the Italian capital after recent reports that he could be heading to either Manchester United or Bayern Munich. Benatia being taken out the Roma squad comes just a day after the club held talks with Manchester United regarding the player. We covered the story yesterday that Walter Sabatini held a meeting with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal and the main topic of conversation was Benatia. There are also reports today that Roma are looking to life without Benatia and are trying to line up a replacement. La Voix Du Nord have revealed today that the Serie A side have put in a €5m bid for Lille central defender Marko Basa. It therefore looks like Morocco international could be leaving the Serie A before the transfer day deadline after the Italian side failed to convince the player to sign an improved contract. He was offered a new salary to remain with Roma but this was deemed to be too low and the player has asked for the club to release him. However Roma are holding out for €35m for any club that is interested in him.
