Benazepril HCl and Hydrochlorothiazide Generic Name : Benazepril HCl and Hydrochlorothiazide Pronunciation : ben-AZ-e-pril - HYE- droe-KLOR-oh-THYE-a-zide TradeName : International- Lotensin HCT. Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This combination medication contains angiotensin- converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and thiazide diuretic, prescribed for high blood pressure. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Contraindicate in patients with anuria (unable to urinate) or hypersensitivity. When it is to be taken : The usual recommended initial dose is 10/12.5 mg once daily. The maximum recommended dose is 20mg/25mg. How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food. Special Instruction : * Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart, liver or kidney disease, aortic stenosis, blood vessel problems, bone marrow problems, high cholesterol or lipid levels, diabetes, gout, stroke, recent heart attack, kidney transplant, autoimmune disease, dehydration, low blood pressure, who are taking other medications, any allergy, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breast feeding. * It may cause dizziness, light- headedness, or fainting, do not drive a car or operate machinery and sit up or stand slowly while taking this medication. * Patient may develop with increased risk of certain eye problems; if it is so consult with your doctor immediately. * It may lead to dehydration; drink adequate fluid. * Avoid exposure to sunlight. * Monitor blood electrolytes, blood pressure, complete blood cell counts, liver function, and kidney function regularly while taking this medication. Side Effects : Cough, dizziness, headache, and fatigue. Other Precautions : * Avoid excess dosage.
