Benefits of Drinking Water Written by Kathy Faulkner Every time I have started on a healthy diet for weight loss, Every health resource I’ve seen states you should drink at least 8-8 ounce glasses of water. Obviously, there’s a connection between water and weight loss. My assumption was it offset sodium intake (water weight). Being as compliant as possible, I guzzled the tasteless liquid but would have much rather have drunk a diet soda. Both zero calories, right? Wanting to make sure it would help, research was necessary. I found this You Tube video from a registered dietician and learned so much more. When you don’t drink enough water your body doesn’t function properly and you get dehydrated. The some of the symptoms of dehydration are: headaches, nausea, fatigue, constipation, kidney problem and dry skin. To maximize the benefits of drinking water to your body, you should drink half your body weight in ounces. If you weigh 150 pounds you should be drinking 75 ounces of water a day. The benefits of drinking all that water are numerous. Water helps with digestion of the foods you eat. It helps with the absorption of the nutrients you are putting in your body. Other benefits include helping to regulate your body temperature and energize your body. Now for the benefits of drinking water while trying to follow a healthy diet for weight loss. Many times when a person feels hungry they are really thirsty. By drinking water before meals, it will help control eating. When drinking water in between meals, you’ll feeling fuller and it aides in suppressing your appetite. If you are like me, drinking that much water becomes a chore. I find the best way to start the day right is to drink a large glass or bottle of water first thing in the morning. I usually grab a bottle of water on the way out the door drink it during my commute to work. I grab another glass (16 oz) mid morning and finish before lunch. The earlier you drink the water the sooner you are done. Throughout the rest of the day and evening I finish it up. Pretty soon it becomes habit and water becomes what you want. If you start drinking your water daily you will notice you will have so much more energy. That’s because your body doesn’t have to work so hard to do all its processes. So, for a simple health and wellness step, set down the soda and tea and pick up water instead. You won’t believe how great this single positive change will make you feel.
