Bengal Global Business Summit The two day summit concluded - TopicsExpress

Bengal Global Business Summit The two day summit concluded today, rekindling the ever optimistic citizens of this state, who think a mere congregation of business persons at the venue is set to redraw the dismal business scenario of West Bengal. I saw the CM Mamata making passionate appeal for investment, to the ever-nodding heads of the local honchos, and also reiterated about a readily available land bank, to an unconvinced audience. In came a bit of political spicing with ‘federalism in governance’ advise to the Union Minister. The matured union finance minister put the over enthusiastic Dr. Amit Mitra in his place, advising him that it is the manufacturing activities that create jobs and to revisit his figures to separate agriculture productivity and manufacturing productivity to understand the weak structure on which West Bengal is standing. He assured absolute support in the state’s endeavour for growth and also promised good share of the largesse out of 2G auction, coal bed auction, and to compensate any and every perceived loss from GST introduction. Nitin Gadkari also promised many projects with good investments that will augur well for the state. Dr. Amit Mitra was the MC, but my personal feeling was, hear him out for a few minutes, and you think that West Bengal is truly in the top of the world with ‘lakhs of crores’ pouring from the skies. His misplaced optimism and interspersed remarks that ‘we are the best,’ met with stony silence and he had to exhort the audience with ‘please clap,’ one too many times. Much of the touted investment commitments could be from central projects. It is three years now that you have formed the government with a massive mandate of promising a change, ‘Poriborton.’ Kindly stop blaming your ills on the past government. The mistake has been CM and other leaders have been merely been leaders of TMC party, opposing BJP, and never have been state leaders with the responsibility to carry the state, despite the burden of past loans and the burden of interest thereon, which both the CM and the state finance minister harped too many times, to a stone faced Union Minister. Didi’s hospitality knows no bounds, as every visitor got a bag with a packet of Joynagarer Moa (A special sweet of this season), a packet of tea (presumably Darjeeling!) and a packet of Gobindo bhog rice. My two final observations were, that the TMC supremo was trying to inch closer to BJP and the Joynagarer Moa was predictably delicious! I am certain about my second opinion though!
