Bengal keg of explosives, says BJP Malda, Oct. 12: BJP state president Rahul Sinha today said the state government had “become a safe haven for terrorists” and the state government and Trinamul were responsible for this. “Bengal has become a safe haven for terrorists and is sitting on a keg of explosives. It is Trinamul and the state government who are responsible for such a situation,” Sinha told a news conference in the Malda district BJP office this afternoon. “The ruling party is apprehensive that soon its involvement with radical organisations of Bangladesh and terrorist outfits would come to light and it has thus used the state police to remove proof from Khagragarh in Burdwan,” he said, alluding to the detonation of explosives by the police a day after the October 2 “accidental” blast in a bomb-making flat in Burdwan. “The state is also trying to stop the National Investigating Agency (NIA) from carrying out investigation out of this fear,” Sinha said. “Reports of several central intelligence agencies mention clearly that Jamaat-e-Islami is active in the bordering areas of Bengal. Trinamul has close relations with Jamaat and they had used this outfit to gain seats in the last panchayat elections in districts like Birbhum. We are happy that NIA has taken up the investigation and we want the agency to unearth the truth,” he said. “There are many unrecognised madarsas in Bengal. The state has not taken steps against any of these institutions and despite alerts from the Centre, the chief minister has announced that her government would recognise 10,000 such madarsas,” Sinha said. The BJP state chief also took a dig at the state police and said that people should pass important information to BJP leaders for better results. “Officials of the state police are either not working because of pressure from the state government or they are not being allowed to work. We would urge people that if they have any information, they should instead share it with us as our party never compromises on issues of national security. We would be happy to take this responsibility of passing such sensitive information to the NIA,” Sinha said. Today, Somesh Das, a businessman and a common face in the sports arena of Malda district, joined the BJP today. While welcoming Das into the party fold, Sinha said: “Several people are joining BJP and today, we got Somesh Das into our party. Strict instructions have been passed to leaders to ensure that wrong people do not get an entry the party.” tt
