Bengaluru / Bangalore Single Largest iT Cluster on Planet by 2020 Karnataka’s IT Secretary Srivatsa Krishna, said the IT sector here is way ahead of its neighbouring State by a huge measure. Bangalore, you believe it or not- is going to become the single largest IT cluster on the planet by 2020. We will have 20 lakh IT professionals in one location- namely Bangalore and 60 lakh indirect employment because of that, and Rs four lakh crore exports by 2020, Srivatsa Krishna, Secretary to Government, Department of IT, BT and S&T Government of Karnataka told. The corresponding figures for today are nine lakh direct employment, 27 lakh indirect employment and Rs 1.65 lakh crore exports today; ....if you see numbers of Chennai and Hyderabad -our neighbours put together- combined dont come up to even half of Karnatakas numbers, he added. On plans to spread the IT sector to parts of the state other than Bangalore, Krishna said IT requires talent pool, requires ancillary support system which today is available largely in Bangalore... we also have it in Mysore to some extent, we have it in Mangalore, now we are beginning to have it in Hubli. We do see IT industry has begun taking shape there as well. IT sector in Karnataka was exempted from Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946 for 11 years. Governments move to bring sector under the law in March had caused worry among IT companies that were slowly recovering from the economic slowdown. Karnataka contributes 38 per cent of the country’s $118 billion overall IT exports compared to $18 billion from Tamil Nadu and $15 million from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “I wonder why there is too much speculation in the media that the IT industry is going away. If it was going away, would CeBIT be coming all the way from Germany and settle in Bengaluru? Let me separate fact from fantasy, and present the facts. They could have gone to Delhi or Mumbai, yet they chose to come here,” he said. In the last year, Karnataka alone created 72,000 new jobs in the IT sector, while AP-Telangana created only 10,000 and Tamil Nadu 37,000 new jobs. The government is planning to make Bengaluru the only city in India with public WiFI facility across the city. The annual revenue generation is expected to be over $40 billion as per the estimates made through a consultant study.” CeBIT India and Bangalore ITE.biz 2014 have attracted over 400 exhibitors, 600 brands, and 127 start-ups from 21 States and 35 nations from around the world.
