Bentley SUV to be called Bentayga. Bentley has announced that its highly anticipated first SUV model will be called Bentayga. The new model, described by the Crewe-based manufacturer as an ultra-luxury 4x4, is expected to go on sale with a number of engine options, including a V8 petrol and a plug-in hybrid. The curious moniker is taken from the Roque Bentayga – a mountain range on Gran Canaria off the West African coast. The Bentayga was first previewed by the EXP 9 F concept (pictured below) at the 2012 Geneva motor show. Since then it has slowly inched towards becoming a production reality as Bentley gauged customer response and the potential size of the market. Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, commented: Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world – combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments. The Bentley Bentayga is due to be unveiled in full later this year before going on sale in 2016.
