Benue APC, a direct opposite of what the National APC represent: - TopicsExpress

Benue APC, a direct opposite of what the National APC represent: The Chief Dr. Samuel Ortom mistake. It is no longer news that Dr. Samuel Ortom, who defected to the APC on the 10/11th Dec.,is now the consensus candidate of the APC to contest the governorship election. This is after he ran unsuccessfully for the PDP ticket in the primaries of 9th Dec. where he polled 111 votes to place 3rd. The other aspirants in the APC are kicking against the decision and have written a petition to the national office, but I think that is how far it will go. Ortom will likely be the APC candidate come Feb. 28th. This is highly undemocratic as it ridiculous. On a day that Sen. George Akume participated in and witnessed the most transparent primary election in the history of Nigeria that produced Gen. Buhari, the best his Benue APC could do was to deny other aspirants the same right to be voted for or against by selecting Ortom, who was just a day old in the party, as a consensus candidate. Sen. Barnabas Gemade had earlier wrestled and won the Zone Senate ticket after joining the party within three days. Now, is it that John Oyeguns APC is different from Abba Yaros Benue APC? How convenient some people choose to defend this act just because they support Ortoms aspiration beats me! We have sacrificed morality and conscience on the altar of personal interest and greed. I dont have anything against Ortoms candidature, but its important we speak out when things terribly go wrong so that posterity will be kind to us. I disagree with his candidature on two grounds: I). Most of the people in Benue APC left the PDP because of its undemocratic tendencies and lack of internal democracy. Candidates were imposed against the will of the people. Today, these people are doing the same thing in APC. What then is the difference between the two? 5 people contested under the APC. Next, you brought in a PDP reject and gave him the ticket. What message are you passing across? That the APC lack credible people to run for election/hold offices? II). It appears Ortom is desperate to be governor. He was rumoured to leave the PDP, then somehow he stayed back. After losing the primaries, he ran to the APC. Then forced his way to have the ticket because if a primary was conducted, he would have lost to Rt. Hon. Jime. I am not prepared to vote such a candidate however good his intentions for the state may be. My opinion though.
