What causes parents to give their children names that are comical or strange. Many years ago governor Hogg of Texas named one of his daughters Ima. One of my son-in-laws lived next door to Peter and Bunny Rabbit. Dr. Bonebreaker is a chiropractor. Harry Butts works as a barber. And here in Wichita we have a Damn pharmacy. Many names bring a smile to our lips. Some cause us to wrinkle our brow. But there is one name above all other named which fills our heart with peace and joy. His birth announcement was delivered by an angel who said to Mary, You shall call him Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins.. Acts 3 records the healing of a crippled beggar. The man was asking for money but received more that he asked when Peter took him by the hand and said, In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth get up and walk.. The miracle soon drew a crowd who wondered how Peter and John had such power to heal. Peter said, Dont look at us as if we were able to cause this man to walk. It was Jesus.. Peter was simply doing what Jesus had taught when he said, When you pray ask the Father in my name and he will give you what you ask for.. God exalted him to the highest place and gave him a name that is about all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that he is Lord. The very mention of his name fills my heart with singing many hymns and choruses. Jesus Is The Sweetest Name I Know. Jesus, Jesus, theres just something about that name. Wonderful, wonderful, Jesus is to me. Counselor, prince of peace, might God is he. To me, he is so wonderful, because he first loved me. O, how I love Jesus. I Am So Glad That Jesus Loves Me. Theres within my heart a melody, Jesus whispers sweet and low. The late C.M. Ward always introduced the choir on his Revivaltime broadcast by saying, Let everybody sing.. Why not? It doesnt matter if you cant carry a tune in a bucket. Let your heart and mind be filled with thoughts about the name that is above all names. #woodswitandwisdom
