Bessie Roberta Acomb Marries Lester C. Merrill, Dansville NY Genesee County Express, Thursday, September 14, 1950. Miss Bessie Roberta Acomb became the bride of Lester C. Merrill, son of Mrs. Mabel A. Merrill of Bergen, at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5th, 1950, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Acomb of Dansville. The bridal party entered to the strains of Lohengrin’s wedding march, played by Mrs. Robert H. McKee. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Robert H. McKee of Dansville Presbyterian Church, before a background of palms and baskets of white gladioli with white satin streamers. Forty-nine members of the immediate families attended the wedding. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a floor length gown of white slipper satin fashioned with sweetheart neckline, long sleeves pointed at the wrists. It had a fitted bodice and bouffant skirt. Her fingertip length veil was of nylon net, and she carried a cascade bouquet of Fleur d’Amour and white roses. Miss Helen Acomb, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Her gown of dusty blue taffeta was styled identically to that of the bride, except with short pointed sleeves. She wore a tiara of pink rosebuds and carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses. The bride’s mother wore a suit dress of light brown pin stripe with a corsage of pink roses. The mother of the bridegroom wore a navy print dress with a white rose corsage. Donald Merrill of Bergen was best man for his brother. Following the ceremony, dinner was served. The bride’s table, centered with a large wedding cake, white gladioli and candles, was set for 12. The other guests were seated at small tables. Leaving for their wedding trip through Canada, with stop over at Niagara Falls, the bride was wearing a rose colored dress with black accessories and a corsage of white roses and Fleur ‘d Amour. Pre-nuptial events for the bridal couple were a variety shower given by Miss Patricia Murphy and Charles Dolan at the home of Mrs. Clark Dolan in Holley and a kitchen shower given by Mr. and Mrs. Duane Brown at Bergen. The bride is a graduate of the Dansville Central High School and has been very active in 4-H work. The bridegroom is a graduate of Holley Central School and is employed on the Harlon Munger dairy farm in Clarendon. Cast: 2nd cousin 1x removed, Bessie Roberta Acomb Merrill.
