Best Interests of the Evil Empire? I dont do a lot of family court work, but the cases I do get involved in are generally very high conflict, and very bitter. Heres a development I find surprising. Court-appointed experts typically appointed to evaluate children and provide reunification therapy are now refusing to get involved in cases in which I represent a party, or to insist that the court provide them with assurances that they will be granted quasi-judicial immunity from suit if we try to hold them accountable. Mind you, these are Ph.D.s earning thousands of dollars in fees to make decisions in the best interests of the children. Their behavior is proving correct those who accuse them of being all about the money. Any professional who refuses to accept an appointment because of the lawyers involved or because they want a guarantee of immunity for whatever they do should sacrifice their spot on the list.
