Best Perk Me Up songs A-Z – Round 3. Today’s letter is B. Today’s song is Baby Have Some faith – 54/40 from 1989. These guys were or are a very talented Vancouver band who was a competitor of Vogen’s you could say. They kind of won the competition over us in popularity but I like to think they’re really are no winners and losers when it comes to self expression. It’s all good. Anyways, we only gigged once with 54/40 (and The Tragically Hip, Spirit Of The West and Mayrun). That was at a great outdoor concert in Saskatoon at a place called Penguin Park (or Penguin Village). A big waterpark place. A beautiful day when we went on in May of 1990 approximately. We went on second after Mayrun. By the time 54/40 went on fourth, the clouds looked very nasty during 54/40’s set and the only break in the clouds came almost to the second that they went into this song Baby Have Some Faith…….Very ominous clouds all the way around except for a bold display of sunlight right where we were in this park. It felt a little like God was shining down during Baby Have Some Faith. It was beautiful and quite a contrasting sight of light and dark. By the time The Tragically Hip went on the weather was getting windy and just as they went into New Orleans Is Sinking a downpour and heavy lightning and thunder was happening big time. They played through it. Remarkable performance in the chaos of weather. Tornado warnings were in force. Went back to the hotel and had a minor party – more just like a relaxing get together with the bands. Here I was trying to be part of a conversation with the two lead singers from 54/40 and Spirit Of The West. Ever wonder what very creative alternative rockers talk about backstage? Why, we had a very long discussion about the brilliance of Gordon Lightfoot! https://youtube/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=tZ8oIsVDoa0
