I have lived 20 years now in San Salvador and have not been mugged once, there is violence in marginal areas or slums and in impoverished areas throughout Central America, just use common sense, several of our guests at teh Hostel in San Salvador have returned from paradise Costa Rica after being robbed there on Buses or in and around Bus Stations.
