Best of Business 2014 Best Of Business — Still significant Last year, we at the Business Journal decided to bring back the Best Of Business honors, which the previous owners had stopped after 2010. In our view, the annual voting and recognition was one of CSBJ’s best and most popular attributes. So we revived Best Of Business, using our Book of Lists as well as some brainstorming sessions to produce more than 70 categories. The result was a noteworthy success, with more than 2,000 voters submitting more than 30,000 total votes. Obviously, there was no hesitation about whether to try again in 2014. This time the participation numbers were about the same, telling us that the honors have meaning and credibility in the local business community. As you’ll see below, there are some cases where companies did their best to get out the vote — and that’s fine, because we monitored closely to catch and disqualify any blatant ballot-box stuffing. To have a ballot accepted, any single voter had to choose winners in at least 15 categories. Many of the results were close, while others weren’t. As in the past, we’ve chosen to keep those vote totals to ourselves, but rest assured, they’re legitimate. Thanks to all for your participation.
