Best wishes to all of our members, whether youre young or youre old. Id like to give you my viewpoint as a new year begins to unfold. Apathy helped run down Stanley, longside industrial demise. Its easy to look back with hindsight, pretend we are really that wise. Maybe some should have acted much sooner, seen the signs of an upcoming fall. The future was laid out before us, the writing was there on the wall. With the rise of convenience shopping where everythings in the one place, We forget to browse around Stanley, take things in at a steadier pace. With a lack of their usual custom local shops had to close one by one. No one seemed even to notice until they were almost all gone. Of course there are other key factors:Fires to mention just one. Too many to list at the moment or else Ill never be done. Alls not yet lost in Stanley, let us build on what is still there. Theres hope for our community as long as theres people who care. This group has proved there are many who are willing to muck in. If more of us keep fighting more chance we have to win. Start with just the little things, seek out the nearest bin. See discarded litter? Pick it up and put it in. Take pride in our surroundings, teach it to the young. What they are now sowing is what theyve got to come. Volunteer for projects, if at all youre able. Go to local meetings and sit around the table. Take a walk round local places, leave the car behind. Look into the smaller shops. See what you can find. Growth will bring yet more growth of that I have no fear. So with that thought I leave you to have a great New Year!!! :)
