Beth Eden Throw-back Thursday! The Beth Eden Schoolhouse, - TopicsExpress

Beth Eden Throw-back Thursday! The Beth Eden Schoolhouse, located across the road from the church, was built on the site of the Beth Eden Collegiate School in 1927. The contractors for the new structure asked the local people to save magazines and newspapers to be used in the gables of the building. (Yes, they were recycling and reusing items long ago, too!) They soaked the magazines and newspapers in water and then added an epoxy or resin and used it much like plaster on the gable exteriors. Although the windows and the some of the brick mortar have cracks today, eighty-seven years later there is not a single crack in the gables. Some of the teachers who taught at the Beth Eden School were Eula Hanna, Lois Bailey, Joe Comb, Carl Bethea, Joe Hull, Amey B. Hull, Vira Hinson, J.B. Keen, Stacy Ward, Margaret Ward, Isabel Metz, Johnnie McReynolds, Nita Kinard, Lula McKay, Cecil Moore, Harold Ming, Vest Frazier, and Claud Ming. Nita Kinard lived in the Beth Eden community and was well over 100 years old when she passed away. Mr. Harold Ming was later principal of Fair Memorial Elementary School in Louisville for many years.
