Bethany residents and staff got together this week to plant - TopicsExpress

Bethany residents and staff got together this week to plant veggies and herbs. This year residents are learning about a method of gardening called companion gardening. The idea is to mix plants that help each other grow or protect from pests. For example, residents planted marigolds with tomatoes. Marigolds help deter harmful nematodes from attacking tomatoes. The pungent odor can also help confuse other pests. Residents also planted petunias with our green beans. Petunias planted next to beans discourages bean beetles. Everyone will take turns watering and caring for the garden. Then, well enjoy fresh pizzas, salads, and salsa! Do you have any favorite gardening tips to share?
