Bettas love live plants, but we understand not everyone has a green thumb or wants to take care of a naturally planted tank. A great way to add in a live plant to your tank that is very easy to care for as well as very cute is to get a Moss Ball. These little plants are actually balls of algae and not true moss, they are hardy, easy to care for and they even compete with any unwanted algae that is growing in your aquarium. What is really great about these little plants is that Bettas love them! Our fish love to nip at them, rub against them and sometimes even sleep by them. Moss balls, also called Marimo can usually be found at most pet shops, places like Petco and PetSmart have them too. If your local pet stores dont sell them you can also find them online and have them shipped to your house. Remember to quarantine (QT) your new Moss Ball for a minimum of 1 week before adding it to your new tank, do not add in any water conditioner- this QT period is to kill off any hidden snails or diseases it may be carrying. Changing the water 100% every day can help prevent anything other than just the plant itself from making it to your Bettas tank.
