Better care fund chief insists new rules represent no loss of trust The new head of the £3.8bn better care fund has sought to reassure councils that the controversial restrictions imposed on the programme last month do not represent a “rolling back of trust” in health and wellbeing boards. Andrew Ridley, who began a secondment as NHS England’s programme director for the fund last month, made the comments in an exclusive interview with LGC and sister title Health Service Journal. “I don’t think it does represent a lessening of trust in health and wellbeing boards,” he said. “The government is still committed to it [and the programme] will go live in April. “I hope it’s not being perceived in that way; it’s certainly not intended to be.” Ministers last month introduced a new set of rules for local better care fund plans. Health and wellbeing boards must rewrite their plans in accordance with these by 19 September. The changes include setting aside funding that will be used to compensate hospitals if plans to cut emergency admissions fail, and giving acute providers the chance to comment on local better care fund plans, including setting out any concerns about viability. lgcplus/briefings/joint-working/health/better-care-fund-chief-insists-new-rules-represent-no-loss-of-trust/5073949.article
