Better get used to paying through the nose at the pump.…Triple A reports that the national average gas price is $3.52 a gallon. The stand-down from attacking Syria eased fears of a supply disruption, so the price is down a bit. But it’s not all good news. Tuesday, we passed a largely-unnoticed milestone: the 1,000th straight day of gas prices over $3 a gallon. According to Triple A, that’s never happened before. And their CEO warns that streak isn’t likely to end soon. With the ongoing volatility in the Middle East, he says gas under $3 has gone the way of the 8-track tape, and barring a recession, expensive gas is here to stay. I’d add that expensive gas is here to stay, barring a recession, or breakthroughs in technology, or getting government to stop blocking development of America energy. Lower gas prices would be just one of the benefits of not having to depend on the Middle East for our economic life blood. Maybe not even the most important one.
