Better hope for a warm, windy winter then! Peter Atherton, an analyst at Liberum Capital, warned: “What is worrying Ofgem is the unexpected thing that’s happened — the closure of gas plants. If somebody else follows suit you are starting to get really tight. You can’t lose too many more gas-fired power stations without it becoming seriously concerning. If the wind is blowing and it’s not particularly cold and all the stations that are normally available are available, you should be fine. But there is not enough fat to absorb a significant unexpected event.”
