Betty Benson - Our President has taken action on an issue that is a disgrace to our country - unfair sentencing laws that have been put in place by the prison industrys lobbying efforts with our Justice Department. President Obama has begun rectifying grossly unfair sentencing meant to fill the coffers of our prison industry and the other onerous effect the cost of such sentencing has had: Quote Of the costs of incarceration President Obama said “…it gobbles up a huge amount of resources. If you look at state budgets, part of the reason that tuition has been rising in public universities across the country is because more and more resources were going into paying for prisons, and that left less money to provide to colleges and universities.” Unquote So - our President is not only correcting the unjust sentencing laws, but is taking a step that will benefit the educational institutions in many States. Thank you President Obama!
