Beyonce, Shakira and Lady Gaga wield a lot of power. This is according to Forbes, which just released the 2014 edition of its list of the “most powerful women in the world.” Beyonce ranks 17th, with the publication citing her performance at the Super Bowl in February 2013; the surprise release of her visual, self-titled album last December; and her successful Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. Shakira comes in at #58. Forbes notes that she’s the “most liked” person on Facebook with 93 million followers, is a UNICEF ambassador, is deeply involved in charity and has been a coach on NBC’s The Voice. Lady Gaga is #67, thanks to her wide social media presence and last year’s ARTPOP release and Born This Way Ball tour, the latter of which was cut short due to injury. Other celebrities highlighted by Forbes include Oprah Winfrey, Sofia Vergara, Ellen DeGeneres and Angelina Jolie. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is #1 on the list.
