His father name was king Siddhartha and Mother name was Devi Trishla . After long span of life time, he took diksha on tenth day of the dark half of the month of Margsirsh After 12 years6months and 15 days of diksha and worldly life abandonment Lord Mahavir attained (kevalgyan) salvation on tenth day of the bright half of the month of Vaishaka and constellation of Hashth . On the 15 th day of the dark half of the month of Karthika called jain deepawali , Bhagwan Mahavir, was liberated and attained nirvana on Pawapuri. Bhagwan Mahavir lived for 72 years of which he spent 42years as an ascetics and 12 years6months and 15 days years of Meditation and Spiritual Practices (sahdana/tap).
