#Bhutan Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graced the celebration of World Environment Day in Bhutan. The day will be observed coinciding with Her Majesty’s birthday from this year onwards, as a tribute to Her Majesty’s patronage of the environment sector in Bhutan. In an address at the commemoration, Her Majesty said that World Environment day is of great relevance and consequence to millions of people who understand the importance of protecting our environment. Underlining this year’s theme of “Think, Eat, Save - a global initiative on addressing food waste”, Her Majesty said that roughly one-third of the food produced worldwide for human consumption is lost or wasted, and that more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger. “These alarming figures puts us in mind of the fact that these are losses that we cannot accept and in our resource-constrained world, there is simply no place for avoidable waste,” Her Majesty said.
