Biased Letter to the Editor (and a personal attack on Kathryn Xian in StarAdvertiser): Feel free to chime in with your responses to this letter written in defense of Don Horner. E-mail: letters@staradvertiser Fax: (808) 529-4750 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Attacks on Horner were mean-spirited (4/21/14) Congratulations to the Senate Education Committee for seeing through the skewed agendas of witnesses and accepting the well-deserved re-nomination of Don Horner as chairman of the state Board of Education. While it is certainly acceptable for witnesses to provide relevant testimony for or against a nominee, it is absolutely wrong, and in my opinion criminal, to cast false aspersions upon a nominee with no substantiated evidence.Mere speculation of a persons character or actions based on their faith is intolerant, mean-spirited and bigoted. Horner has done nothing to indicate he would do anything but treat all children equally, and, as a candidate for national office, Kathryn Xians suggestion to the contrary without justification speaks of her unsuitability to represent the state of Hawaii in Congress. Tolerance should be extended and protected in all circumstances and to all individuals, not just when it meets a specific agenda. James Roller Miliani
