Bible Reading 2014 March 17=Joshua 16-18 The Tabernacle at Shiloh! The tabernacle was the portable place of worship for the Israelites. Joshua had been given the commission to lead the people into the promised land and establish an order that would please God. God was faithful on His part and Joshua tried to be a good and faithful servant but the people had developed an acute case of self-complacency. Five of the twelve tribes had already received their inheritance in the promised land and there yet remained seven of the tribes to receive their distribution. A stern rebuke came from Joshua in verse three. “How long are ye slack to go to possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers hath given you?” Joshua faced a motivational problem that has been consistent from the fall of man. Not only does man choose not to follow and worship God but even when he says he is following he gets satisfied. We have the same problem today with many that say they are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, know that they are on their way to Heaven, and say they will be there. However, there is nothing in their lives that even closely resembles bearing spiritual fruit for the Lord. They seem to endure their salvation, not excited or happy at all to know that God loves us and gave His son for our atonement. There is no desire to be faithful to the local Church, and absolutely no witnessing to the unsaved. If what we have received is so good then why can others not see that in us? God has given us exceeding and precious promises, He has challenged us to go in and possess the land but we are content to stay where we are and make no effort to seek the kingdom grow. HE THAT WINNETH SOULS IS WISE!
