Bible Study: Oct 30, 2013 Matthew 16:24-26 Jesus said that for us to be His disciple, we have to deny ourselves. What does this mean? This means that we have to renounce our own will and embrace the Fathers. Though the example may be an opposite of what Christ wanted, this form of denial was done by Peter when he had denied Christ. This type of denial was an outright detachment or any knowledge about the person. And when we deny ourselves, this is what it means, that we need to have a voluntary and intentional detachment from ourselves and embracing God. An example of denying oneself and embracing Gods: When your son/daughter had committed a crime, will you report your own to the authorities? What does the cross mean? The cross was never refer to as illnesses that afflicts us, nor does this mean the suffering that we have encountered or will encounter. But this cross means that our sins need to be nail to the cross. Follow...a simple word but a big one. How can we follow Christ if we still do in accordance to our will and live in liberty of our sin? Follow...are you willing to listen, obey and actually do? an example of follow: Mom says clean your room...son says its done, for Ive repeated clean my room until Ive memorized it. (wrong) Mom says clean your room...son says its done, for Ive studied it and researched on it. (wrong) Following means obeying the command, not just learning about it. The value of our soul is most precious to our Lord. That is why He had sent His Son to save it. But the greatest struggle a man can ever have is not belief, but letting go. Humans truly know that there is a Creator. But humans are unwilling to deny themselves and give their lives up to a God whom they have not seen nor touched. They are unwilling to give up their temporary fleshly desires instead of a lifetime union and bliss in the heavenly realms. Will it be possible to purchase a minute of yesterday? Or will you be able to purchase additional hour for today? All of us have a sense of time and eternity. Even for the ungodly, they do wish for a longer life to enjoy the pleasures of this world. But for the godly, they are praying for a shorter one so that they can enjoy the companion of their Creator. In as much as we can never pay a million pesos to extend the last minute of our life, we can never regret receiving the gift that Christ has to offer. If we do not know the value of what Christ had done, you can never see the importance of living for Him. These verses are truly important because we can never be Christs follower unless we have counted the cost. God has given us a lot of examples to which were able to see the cost of following God. Jim Elliot once said He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose. Amen and Amen!!!
