Bible Study notes from class... Lord Jesus, speak to me through your Word as I listen for your wisdom and direction... Gen 24:1-27 It is strange how God speaks to us and how He answers prayer... Sometimes we can get direct communications like through a dream, but we don’t act on it, because?… Too obvious?... Too clear?... Too much of a coincidence?... Have you ever had a dream, or a thought/vision about an important event and decided not to act on it, only to discover later that it would have been better had you taken action?... Was God talking and you didn’t take Him seriously?... Rebekah, Isaac’s wife-to-be was prepared by the Spirit of God to be quickened to take her place beside her Prince Charming!!! Abraham sent Eliezer on a quest to find a wife for Isaac... He prayed to God for God to make it clear and erase his doubt that this was the girl God had selected and God answered him before he had finished praying... God gave Abraham’s Chief servant a sign... Do you know how much water a thirsty camel can drink? I’m not sure exactly, but I know it’s a lot. Rebekah welcomes the stranger and offers him water to drink... Then she runs back and forth, to and from the well, until 10 camels are satisfied! No wonder the man gazes at her in silence?… Could this be the one chosen by God to become Isaac’s wife? Could there be any doubt?... She did have a choice and had the free will choice to go or stay... She chose to go and because she was obedient she enjoyed a loving relationship with Isaac and was an instrument of God, in continuing the history of God’s promises to His people... It is a good example of how God makes opportunities and gives us decisions to make... He also answers prayer and gives us direction… if we are listening and willing to go where we are called... Perhaps our biggest problem is discerning what are God’s requests and what comes through our own selfish wants?... I think it may depend upon how consciously we work on our relationship with Him... God gives all people free will. We are free to follow Jesus. Just as Rebekah came to live with Isaac and experience loving relationship... when we follow Jesus, we live in the relationship of God’s perfect love for us.
