Bible This Thursday Pauls alleged encounter with Jesus on his way to Damascus as differently narrated in Acts 9:3-7, 22:6-10, 26:12-18 Can you spot the difference? Acts 9:3-7 says As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me? 5Who are you, lord? Saul asked. And the voice replied, I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! 6Now get up and go into this city, and you will be told what you must do. 7The men Saul stood speechless, for they heard the sound of someones voice but saw no one! While Acts 22:6-10 says As I was on the road, approaching Damascus about noon, a very bright light from heaven suddenly shone down around me. 7i fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, Sau,! Saul, why are you persecuting me? 8Who are you, lord? I asked. And the voice replied, I am Jesus the Nazarene, the one you are persecuting. 9The people with me saw the light but didnt understand the voice speaking to me. 10I asked, What should I do, Lord? And the Lord told me, Get up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told everything you are to do. But Acts 26:12:18 gave entirely a different narration by the same Paul! It says 12One day I was on such a mission to Damascus, armed with the authority and commission of the leading priests. 13About noon, Your Majesty, as I was on the road, a light from heaven brighter than the sun shone down on me and my companions. 14We all fell down, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is useless for you to fight against my will. 15Who are you, lord? I asked. And the Lord replied, I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting. 16Now get to your feet! For I have appeared to you to appoint you as my servant and witness. You are to tell the world what you have seen and what I will show you in the future. 17And I will rescue you from both your own people and the Gentiles. Yes, I am sending you to the Gentiles. 18to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive frogiveness for their sins and be given a place among. Gods people, who are set apart by faith in me. Any careful and keen reader of the above, will be able to spot the difference. Can you, dear reader spot the difference between the three narrations? Please share your findings with me. God bless you. I am patiently waiting for your response. After all the same Paul in his 1 Thessalonians 5:21 said that EVERYTHING that is said should be tested and verified and thereafter HOLD on to that which is good.
