BibleEtcJanuary232014 I am committed daily to reading daily from the Old Testament; also from the New; something from the Qur’an; and a hadith. And, I am posting daily comments on Facebook. OT from a Bible Survey I had put together, with twelve sessions for a Muslim/Christian group. Exodus 14:9-22. The Israelis are caught between the Red Sea and the chariots of the Egyptians. Moses raises his hand and the LORD sends an east wind that blows all night so there is a dry path in the Red Sea where the Israelites can cross. The LORD hardens the heart of the Egyptians so they will follow Mark 10:46-52. As Jesus leaves Jericho (headed toward Jerusalem) Blind Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, is beside the road. Mark lives between the Semitic (Hebrew/Aramaic) world of Jesus, and the Greek world of the recipients of his gospel. Blind Bartimaeus wants to see. So, Jesus says: Your faith has made you well/whole/saved you. Then Bartimaeus follows Jesus on the way; and when we can see, we follow Jesus on the way. Quran. 3. Verses 130-136 A ban on usurious interest. (whatever percentage that is) Hurry toward forgiveness and there is a “Garden as wide as the heavens and the earth prepared for the righteous.” The righteous give in good times and bad, they restrain their anger, they pardon people, and they forgive people. God forgives sins. God pardons. There is a Garden with streams of water flowing. See Revelation 22:1 A river of the water of life flows from the throne of God and through the garden of paradise. Hadith. Sahib al Bukhari. Book 2/ Chapter 30/ verse 41 Page 72 Blessings on those who worship God alone. If you have faith as big as a … barley seed….a wheat seed…. An atom, you will be forgiven by God and taken out of Hell. I see a lot of grace and mercy in this hadith. It certainly sounds like the graciousness of a “second chance” after death. Weight on home scale. 258# (This is a new low.) Last night I wondered whether to have a snack, or go to bed. I am glad I just went to bed. Earlier in the day when I was a docent at the museum, a lady brought me a hotdog. I declined the hotdog. As she at them both, she said “I need to lose 30 pounds.” I told her I had lost 30 and had 90 to go. My weight will be 217 or lower on Jan 1, 2015, and at some point after that 167. Right now, I am 32 pounds under my gross 290, and have 91 pounds of fat and blubber to lose to get down to 167. Exercise 1st day on level C- of chart one on Royal Canadian Air Force 5BX. Six minutes. The movements increase incrementally at each new step. I find the running in place and scissors jumps the most challenging. I am glad I have lost some waist size. I tried to put on a black sweater yesterday that I used to wear. I have a lot of poundage still to lose.
