[Bible_Study5] Jan 28 Luke 3 to Luke 4 True Repentance and and Temptation Good morning, Today we look at John’s ministry and The beginning of Jesus Ministry. John Spoke about true repentance, When I was younger I, and my brother liked to be around when they would be burning a bush for farming (in the village). Sometimes snakes come out looking for a safe place to stay till the commotion was over, I noticed that the snakes we didn’t succeed in killing would hide somewhere for sometime then slither back to their holes when it was safe. So I understand why John compered the people to Vipers Some of the people had not truly repented, they came to him to be baptized feeling that the ritual will save them from the coming judgment, and after that they can go back to their ways. There was no change in their lives or in their hearts. Or you could liken it to people who come to Christianity for it to solve all their problems, and once those problems are solved or not solved in their time, they go back to their old ways or move on to the next church, worldly method or religion. We should be careful to have faith in God and not in the religious practices. Verses 7-9 warn us of the dangers of false repentance while Verses 10-14 show us the nature of true repentance. False repentance is outward, not inward. False repentance assumes the basic goodness of one’s heart. Almost everyone (even evil men) say “I’m not that bad I do this good deed and that good deed, i obey this part of the bible the other part is not for me”. Truth is your goodness cannot save you we are are all sinners. True repentance begins by acknowledging the sinfulness of our heart and most importantly appealing to God for a new heart. (1 John 1:10) True repentance reveals itself by bearing good fruit. (Luk 3:8) True repentance will bear the fruit of generosity toward the needy. (Luk 3:11) True repentance will bear the fruit of honesty without greed in business. (Luk 3:13-14) Let us ask ourselves today, am I truly repentant. Do I acknowledge that I am a sinner, and Believe Jesus paid the ultimate price and died in my place to save me. TEMPTATION METHODS Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness without food. Moses spent 40 days without food or water on Mount Sinai with the Lord before he received the Law (Exod. 24:18; 34:28). Elijah went 40 days on the strength of the food given to him by the angel to Horeb, the mountain of God (1 Kings 19:8). The devil normally comes at your weakest moment, he attacks when your down, and confused, giving you subtle evil advice. The basic temptation that satan used on Jesus was for Jesus to depend upon himself and not God the father. satan promises pleasure, but he doesn’t mention the inevitable pain that comes with the sin. he tries to make sinful deeds, programs, shows, etc look modern, everybody does it so it cant be wrong. satan tries to get us to meet legitimate needs or goals in illegitimate ways. We should learn from our Lord Jesus how to be wise to Satan’s schemes. Jesus showed us strategies for overcoming temptation: Make out time to be with God Be prepared to be tempted, especially after a victory. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. Be Armed with the Scripture Be ready for further attacks. Finally (luke 16-30) Jesus was rejected and almost killed by his towns men for telling them the truth, rejection of the message from family is something i know to well. I remember when I told my cousin my position in my church - he laughed for 1 minitue, when i wanted to discuss a part in the bible to my uncle who no longer goes to church - He shouted look i have read the bible for many years, what do you that started yesterday want to tell me, but Ive seen him quietly listening to Reverends younger than me. Please if anyone knows the best approach to speak or discuss about Jesus to hostile relatives, let us know? I have been discouraged and stopped. Please more Contributions Have a wonderful day. Chuks ======== Thanks Bro. Just wondering that at the opening of chapter 4, Satan said If you are the Son of God... then at the closing the demons said You are the Son of God! One wonders who was confused! But it is obvious that the devil tries to push us into an identity crisis. He tries ro make us doubt who we are and Whose we are! He made Eve doubt Gods sincerity; He wanted Jesus to doubt His Deity! Today, he still asks, do you think God loves you? If He does, why is it that...? If God is so powerful, why doesnt He... As Jesus responded with scriptures, we need to know the word of God to respond! Job 19:25 NIV I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand on the earth. Lanre ========================== Greetings to one and all in the Magnificent name of Christ Jesus. I wish to share Luke 4:43 But he said, I must preach the good news of the kingdo of God to the other towns also, because that is hy I was sent. Early in the morning, as the sun rose slowly over the hills surrounding th Sea of Galilee and the fishing boats rocked gently on the still waters, Jesus withdrew to a quiet place to pray. While Jesus was away praying, people were looking for Him. He had become so well-known by this time, and was in such demand that people went to a lot of trouble to get close to Him. When they tracked Him down, they begged Him to stay with them, and not to go to another area. It would probably have been very easy for Jesus to stay in the beautiful province of Galilee. There were so many people there who wanted to hear what He had to say, but He said to them, I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to ather towns also, because that is why I was sent. For Jesus it was about much more than simply keeping busy and continuing to serve. A passion burned in Him to reach as many people as He could with the good news of the Kingdom of God. Jesus knew His calling and received His mission from God, His Father. The despair that He saw in the people of Galilee could not keep Him there. What calling has God placed in each and everyone of us? How many of us know why we were born? What instructions has our heavenly Father given us? And lastly whats holding us back? Ntulimnodi ============== Good Evening All, Luke 4:35 tells us something profound about the authority Jesus had as the Son of God. Please read 35 Be quiet! Jesus said sternly. Come out of him! Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him. He speaks directly to the demon. Always when healing he speaks directly to the situation/object. He did not say God, heal this person So it is for us also, as children of God, to speak directly to situations, sickness, disease. We do learn everyday. I have. Thanks everyone and God bless. Regards. Cynthia.
