Biblical Business Principles: Leadership So im currently reading the book of Joshua and im impressed by what im learning.Joshua was just an ordinary man but the Lord saw a leader in him.He had just taken over from Moses, the Bible says Joshua was filled with wisdom because Moses had laid hands on him when he commissioned him as the new leader. The Lord then showed him the vast land of Canaan which the children of Israel which they were to inhabit, they could have simply marched in and took possession of the land but the land was already inhabited by multitudes way more and stronger than the Israelites. What followed was to be one of the greatest conquests of all time and prove Joshua one of the greatest leaders in the Bible. Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan, defeating 31 kings and amassing the kingdoms and the entire region of Canaan. What made Joshua a great leader? Strength and courage-the bible says the Lord told Joshua to be strong and very courageous (Jos1:7). Now to be a leader one needs strength and courage, there are gonna be challenging times, there are gonna be times when u gonna feel like giving up before you even start because of the seemingly daunting task (imagine Joshuas surprise to find Canaan being Inhabited by 31 strong kingdoms which he was to overcome though he had a relatively small army) and thats where those two traits come in. Obedience-If you are not ready to humble yourself enough to be obedient then you are not ready to lead, there leadership is a position of authority it requires total humility in order to be obedient. The Lord told Joshua to be careful to follow the His law and commands (Jos1:7).Joshua followed every command the of the law to the dot even, even those ones one could have overlooked and thought of as minor. And because his was so obedient he successfully led the Israelite into Canaan.Humility is being able to accept other ideas and opinions in spite of your own for the best interests of those you are leading. Wisdom-the Bible says Joshua was filled with wisdom an impartation from his predecessor Moses who had laid hands on him. The book of Joshua describes him as a man with the finest tactical minds. He knew he was up against multitudes of armies and his army fought with a military flair of strategy against numbers, and one by one every man in the 31 kingdoms fell.Sometimes as a leader you are going to be thrown into situations, you might have limited resources and thats where wisdom kicks in,you will need to improvise, restructure, regroup in order to overcome those situations.
