Biblically Speaking……………..Thabiso Mokoena Leadership: Moses V/S Senzo Meyiwa As a soccer fan whom the love for football runs in his veins, and a goalkeeper by position I wish to register my acceptance as I strive for complete understanding of how life unfolds. Fair and unfair people say but I find comfort and answers in scriptures. So I wish to share, all in the name of leadership. Those of you who constantly engage leadership content will agree that we barely hear of a style of leadership called transitional leadership except for in cases where its existence is agued. We however cannot deny that transitional moments are often experienced and characterize many moments of our leadership history. At the centre of this transition are people, informing my argument that both Moses and Senzo were Servant leaders during transitional times. I wish also to propose that we agree on the fact that leaders are often ordinary people who accept or are placed under extraordinary circumstances that bring forth latent potential, producing character that inspires confidence and trust within others Clear in their acts, Moses and Senzo inspired confidence and trust who followed them as well as those who entrusted them with leadership responsibility until their last day. A similarity striking me about these leaders is their ending. After all the hardwork, convincing, battles, laws, lack of food, lack of water, people disobedience and many more flowers and bees of the Israelites journey from Egypt to the promised land which took 40 years of Moses Leadership, leading them exceptionally well, having been through all turbulences by grace of God and his direction He never saw the promised land. Moses was taken to mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah that is against Jericho, shown all towns of Canaan and told by Got that :“ this is the land I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac and unto Jacob, saying I will give it unto thy seed (their grandchildren), I have caused thee to see it with thy eyes, but thou shall not go over thither [ Deuteronomy 34 V 4] Senzo worked so hard in his career from early age which propelled him into a leadership position. Trustworthiness, commitment, discipline, endurance, patience and many other qualities were displayed during his leadership, mostly characterized by transition from 2nd best to first choice in both club and national duty. Also transition from bad to good team performance on both platforms. Very influential and recently declared his ambition to play abroad as well as wearing national colours in the next coming world cup competition. He led Bafana Bafana into 2 wins and 2 draws leaving the nation hopeful of going through. But just like Moses Senzo will never see the next world cup even if Bafana Bafana could qualify. This might either be the transition has taken place and the team is now transformed or that which God assigned his is accomplished. Senzo showed patriotism in its highest order and did his job very well. However painful his ending may be, let’s all accept, understand and be thankful for having been blessed through him. May his Soul Rest in Peace. Hamba kahle Bakhaniya
