Bic Macs for just $10 as firm says love us again McDonalds Hong Kong is putting the original Big Mac back on the menu with the familiar patty, lettuce and onion - for just HK$10. The fast food giant is banking on Hongkongers short memories to start lovin Big Mac and three other big- sellers from today, two weeks after being embroiled in the Shanghai contaminated food scandal. A Big Mac originally cost HK$19.20. We are now directly importing lettuce and fresh onions from the USA and Taiwan and have sourced sufficient supplies to be able to resume normal supply of Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, GCB [grilled chicken burger] and McChicken, a statement said yesterday. Also from today to Friday, McDonalds will distribute HK$10 coupons in different branches so customers can buy a Big Mac for HK$10 to thank customers for their support all along. The coupons can be redeemed until Sunday. The fast food chains Hong Kong branch admitted after days of denials that it imported cooked beef, chicken and vegetables from Shanghai Husi Food, which was caught repackaging expired and moldy meat. McDonalds Hong Kong managing director Randy Lai Wai-sze on July 27 deeply apologized for the tainting scandal. The company at first denied importing from Husi. The chain, with its ubiquitous golden arches, said the supplier for the first batch of lettuce and fresh onions is Taylor Farms Food Service from the United States. McDonalds said it will suspend relationships with any suppliers which have allegedly violated any food safety regulations and the suspension will only be lifted once full inspection is made. It also said that all Husi China ingredients have been completely removed from all McDonalds restaurants. Chicken McNuggets, McSpicy Chicken Filet, Fresh Corn Cup, Iced Fresh Lemon Tea and Green Salad and Grilled Chicken will continue to be suspended. Meanwhile, netizens suggested a number of fanciful plans for McDonalds to repair its tattered reputation. Female sister said: The Hong Kong branches should learn from the Taiwanese branches. Let the staff wear maid cosplay clothing to attract customers. And Mo Bei Dik Dik Zai suggested: McDonalds should give us a HK$50 two-hour McBuffet.
