Bicycle Leg 4, Los Angeles to Costa Rica, Day 3 - 40 mi, (147 tot.) Today could have been really frustrating had i not seen the difficulties coming when XII - The Hanged Man fell out for the card of the day. We had dead ends, mysteriously missing roads, and nearly three miles of walking the bike through unrideable, sandy gravel snake country. But i chucked the idea of seeing Slab City today the moment i saw the cards. They reminded me to be the butt -and- the laugh stuffed mouth, as the day played me for a joke. And as i rolled through honest desert, low scrub trees dotting the peanut brown of my Friday sundae, i saw in microcosm as it eclipsed the macro, this pangean roulette that offered anything, everything, with extra onions too. i saw that no urge would go unsatisfied and no dream undreamt, in the fullness of time, and i saw no patience for it, as generations ran like sand. i saw words like ruined temples, losing their air of scientific honesty to insult. i saw activists turn bigot and back again as a four dimensional globe spun like an eye-boggling top. A tower built to fall. A heart made to break. A hope fulfilled in hoping. i saw the apotheosis of progress turn utopian silhouette and disappear in the black like a key lost in its hole. The pit, the pit. The black hole of densest matter where everything goes to remember it doesnt. Matter. And i laughed at my useless life. i sucked the rock candy bliss until it left its indent in the gum of my teeth. And then i let it fall out. Not on purpose. But for purpose. For the sake of the grand, Why not? Now firing back up this LARP, remembering one of my favorite parts of touring, a simple equation, New Environments + Bulk Experience + Slowly + Wandering Mind = Well, youll see. Heres a bit of todays haul: While there are many complex and highly technical apparatus in use in the medical field today, theres probably no other piece of equipment so resource intensive and controversial as the casino, a life support device for aging comedians. A company that assists groups of creatives in organizing shared living situations for medium to large groups of geographically disparate yet like minded people. Say a community of fourteen people who want to live some of the year in Paris, NYC, LA, and SF, for instance, with four 4 BR places and a little planning. Like a people scaled, personal time share system with a bit of co-operative flavor. There are a surprising number of ludicrous sounding things that are perfectly truthful. Like, for instance, i always qualify for bereavement discount.... Every day i lose a large number of close members of my family. Gain a good many too. Fun Fact - When you see me in a picture by the side of the road with my bike, ive probably just finished peeing, probably right next to the thing i leaned my bike against. You might even find a dark spot in some of the pics if you look closely. Also fun, though slightly less factular, ill finally process my backlog of photos from the last couple months.... soon. i picked out a church for the night, but we havent met yet. *crosses fingers* Wish me luck!
