Bid on one of my paintings for a great cause The Dallas Childrens Advocacy Center ALEXANDER MIJARES Miami native Alexander Mijares is an emerging artist to watch. He is a part of the Street Art movement, which has gained traction in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and London. While his work is new to Dallas, Mijares is one of the foremost muralists in the world. He has headlined events at such high profile art fairs as Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Wynwood and ART Santa Fe. Additionally, he has been included in prestigious exhibitions in the art meccas of New York City, the Hamptons, and Los Angeles, among many others. When LAB ART, the Los Angeles-based Street Art gallery and largest gallery devoted to Street Art in the US, opened a space in the Dallas Design District this past September, Mijares was one of the two artists featured. For their opening, Mijares painted Look Into My World, his largest mural yet, spanning 110 feet. On November 13, he will be featured in a solo exhibition at LAB ART. Mijares comes from Cuban and Spanish heritage. This international background is reflected in his work and has made him a citizen of the world, which is evidenced by his charitable giving. He contributes to many charities benefitting youth in the US and abroad, including the Louis Vuitton Young Arts Project in Paris and Project Medishare in Haiti. This is the first time he is donating to a charity in Texas and the only auction in which he will participate in the state this year. Mijares is thrilled to be included in this live auction and to help the children of the Dallas Childrens Advocacy Center. The Dallas Childrens Advocacy Center (DCAC) will host its 8th annual ART for ADVOCACY auction on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at F.I.G. (Fashion Industry Gallery), celebrating the transformative power of art therapy. The event will highlight 100 local and regional artists in a silent and live art auction and will feature tequila, Texas tapas, and desert vacation packages inspired by this years theme, DEPARTURE. Tunes will be provided by James Gabriano, DJ S.O.U.L.Jah, and a special live performance by The Polyphonic Spree. An Art Preview for $2500+ sponsors will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. offering the first opportunity to buy-it-now. Doors to general attendees will open at 7 p.m. Since its inception in 2007, ART for ADVOCACY has raised more than $2 million in support of the art therapy program and other crucial services for child abuse victims at the Dallas Childrens Advocacy Center.
