Big Ass Spider (2013) -- Its slightly better than you might think it is. You might be fooled into thinking this was another one of Syfy Channels ridiculous low budget monster movies, but apparently it was a horror darling on the film festival circuit. Nevertheless, its in the spirit of such tripe as Sharknado, but manages to be the best possible version of it. We actually like the protagonist (played by Matt from Heroes, whom Ive always liked) and care about his success, even if his flirtations with the supporting ladies are all awkwardly shoved in. Stealing the show is sidekick security guard Jose, whos so clueless you wonder why he tags along on anything. I genuinely laughed the whole way through, not just because it was stupid and I was supposed to, but because the movie is interested in lampooning crap like Sharknado. Its trying to have it both ways, being that stupid whilst simultaneously trying to make fun of being that stupid (the military all high five each other when the day is won). All I can say is that it worked for me: its short, corny, a little creepy, and the opening scene is legitimately good. Jeff ought to love it. Streaming on Netflix. https://youtube/watch?v=YoB8t0B4jx4
