Big B, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Kamal Haasan to grace Kolkata film fest Oct 20, 2013, After CM Mamata Banerjee took over the reins of power in Bengal, the states annual film festival has gone in for a glamorous makeover. Gracing last years Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) were Amitabh Bachchan and Bengal brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan. And this time around, apart from SRK, Big B is likely to be joined on stage by his better half, actress-politician Jaya Bachchan, veteran actor Kamal Haasan and celebrated director Adoor Gopalakrishnan. And if sources are to be believed, the 19th KIFF — scheduled from November 10 to 17 — will be high on star power from the start to the end. The festival, as expected, will kick off with a Rituparno Ghosh film. When CT got in touch with Shibaji Panja, convener, KIFF, he confirmed the news, saying, The festival will begin with the Hindi version of Ritudas unreleased film, Sunglass. Its now called Taank Jhaank. We have recently got the confirmation from the production house holding the movies rights. The Bengali version will be part of the Rituparno Ghosh retrospective. This is the first time that the Bengal audience will be able to catch the film. While the Thaali Girl is yet to be finalized, sources say it might be one between Subhashree and Raima Sen. For the Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture, an addition to the festival this year, Sharmila Tagore has been confirmed. In another addition to the festival, some of the Bengali actresses working in the Hindi film industry will be felicitated. A few of the names considered for this segment are Moushumi Chatterjee, Bipasha Basu, Sushmita Sen and Rani Mukerji. Bipasha and Sushmita have already confirmed their presence at KIFF. The festival authorities will also be inviting the Bengali directors in Bollywood like Sujoy Ghosh, Shoojit Sircar and Dibakar Banerjee, among others. Thats not all. There will be music and dance performances like last year, but the festival committee is still working on the details. Seems like it would be a gala and memorable affair. bit.ly/1gyi52R
