Big Brother! Does this term give you a sense of warmth and protection or one of violation and betrayal? Once upon a time a feller wrote a book titled 1984. In it, his portrayal of Big Brother was complete surveillance of everyones privacy and attempted control of thoughts. Some today often say we are reaching the prophetic point of this book and are being tricked into giving ourselves over to surveillance by even choosing to carry microphones and cameras with us via our personal cell phones. There is another attachment to this term or phrase that brings more endearment. That is the feeling one sibling always had knowing that no matter what trouble he got himself into, a Big Brother could always descend upon the situation to take care of business. Whether it was against a bully, or even more dangerous, nefarious characters, the big brother could swoosh in to save the day.. Knowing that if Big Brother, while not even around, ever found out you were being mistreated, would hunt down and destroy any threat. I think of this as I think of the beheaded reporters. Captive for one or two years, knowing that they are citizens of the mightiest country ever existing and hoping day after day that Big Brother using the clandestine traits of 1984 surely know where they are and are waiting for the correct political moment to swoop in and save them. Only to meet their fate, hands tied after such long captivity and days of hope, to realize Big Brother isnt coming.. Isnt coming in, to intervene. This Big Brother only listens now, and spies and is powerless to save you. While back home political correctness rules the day to make sure your executioner isnt profiled or improperly spoken of.
