Big Brown Bats are a social species and very much do enjoy being in the company of their same species (we often catch them snuggling together). We strive to provide the animals in our care a very high-quality of life, full of enrichment and friends. However, as much as we love bats (and you know we do!), we still want to prevent any unplanned pregnancies among our non-releasable captive bats. One of our male bats, Warren, was still intact, so although he could meet our other educational bats, he was never allowed any unsupervised time with any friends that were female. Luckily for Warren, we network with a great team of experienced and skilled veterinarians and veterinarian technicians. Thanks to them, Warren was successfully neutered and will soon be able to mingle with our other non-releasable Big Brown Bats once his surgical site is completely healed. Yay for Warren!
