Big Creek Presbyterian Church - Rensselaer, MO The history of this town and church is very interesting. The church is 3 stories. The first floor is the fellowship hall, the second story is the chapel and the third story... The pastor gave us a tour and explained that back in the day the women used the right-hand staircase and the men the left and sat separately in the sanctuary. That third story was a big, dark, and sweltering room where the slaves were put so they did not run away. Outside were the still functioning outhouses and a red brick 2-story school is next door.
