Big Give 2014 Blessings! The BIG GIVE, combining the efforts of FORTY THREE teams of compassionate, hard-working members of the United States Air Force at Holloman Air Force Base, chose non-profit organizations and individuals in need and helped them with needed upgrades. For three weeks residents of Otero County watched these amazing folks tear down, rebuild, install, landscape, weather proof and create beauty, safety and new beginnings, to better life in Otero County- in sweltering temperatures! Animal Village NM was totally blessed with four dedicated, animal loving teams. One of those teams was THE BOMB SQUAD, who totally BLEW IT UP for former (and future) death-row pets needing homes, by completely revamping the organic part of our first impression with GORGEOUS raised flower beds, incorporating new drought resistant, colorful flowering plants, and clearing out weedy areas in our parking lot. THIS TEAM WORKED OUTSIDE in 100+ degree temperatures for whole days. If THAT wasnt enough? If helping us to save more lives year after year by making us pleasantly more noticeable to more than TEN MILLION DRIVERS who are estimated to drive by our 9-acre no-kill shelter each year- wasnt enough? THE BOMB SQUAD TEAM also organized our flea market storage garage. This is a future source of steady income once we have volunteers to organize and run our weekend flea markets. But we couldnt FIND anything, as the generosity of people donating great saleable items quickly outran the space in our garage! THE BOMB SQUAD went input out storage areas, which were absolute OVENS with temperatures way exceeding 100 degrees outside, much higher inside. They threw out everything broken and outdated, and like veritable awe-inspiring machines, organized every precious donation and piece of shelter equipment, supplies, doggy costumes, holiday decorations, you name it! Weve already begun to post and sell the items, because we can easily find them now! What THE BOMB SQUAD (led by former adopter Michael Overton) did will not only bring more ADOPTERS, visitors, donors, and volunteers to our 9-acre shelter, now New Mexicos Largest No- Kill shelter- but theyve helped us to begin our weekend flea market adventure, which will bring desperately needed funding in for the continued rescues of loving, loyal pets abandoned to die in New Mexicos animal control facilities.
