Big Screen worth it on many levels. Clare native’s world wide - TopicsExpress

Big Screen worth it on many levels. Clare native’s world wide and at home all cheered at the magnificent team of hurlers who performed Sunday the 8th of September. With over 3,000 enjoying the game on a big screen in Abby St. Car park in Ennis. National coverage that spilled out world wide was one of the by products of this event. The news that the local authority gave its citizen the opportunity to be part of a gathering of fans to celebrate this uplifting event. I was there with my family and really enjoy the atmosphere and well organized event. I was surprised and saddened that the Town Manger stated recently that the big screen would not go ahead on the 28th of September. No plausible reason was give to my way of thinking. The cost justified itself, by the vast PR received. We all agree this fact. Policing of the event can be stepped up if necessary as like any street event any where in Ireland. Many traders welcomed the idea and if fact the Brian O Neill owner of the Rowan Tree Hostel said ‘’it was a great family event.’’ This is good for business. There is a spin off to the shops. Hear again the argument is strong that only 82,000 tickets are available. There by leaving thousands with out tickets. Plus it is later in the day. Despite the cost are much lower now, it is still costly for families, mine included. Taking in to account price of tickets, travelling and a meal. The lateness of the evening and Saturday traffic in and around Dublin can be a nightmare. The big screen does not have to be in Abby St car park. It could easily be in the Fair Green and remain erected until the home coming on Sunday. Our elected councilors should support the citizen, hurlers and fans. We have seen many darks days in Clare in the last few years. The hurlers of both U21 and senior have brought us great joy, excitement, dreams and lots of hope of win on the 28th.It unites us as citizens of county and bring so many family and friend together. A gathering in Ennis would bring to life a real passion that could be captured on film and used world wide in promotion. Social media has been active and excited at the thought it may be screen again in Ennis on the 28th. Can the Councilors please support the citizens? The PR from this event cannot be measure in money; we will be getting publicity home and abroad. Following on the win in the Tidy Towns. Up the Banner.
