Big band is the only thing I really miss about playing brass, and this is a good example of why. The band obviously LOVES playing it. When youre doing a song like this, its like flying. On a similar note, George Roberts (who did bass trombone for Nelson Riddles Orchestra) has impressed me; he was evidently one of the pioneers of that instrument, and I can certainly see why. Riddle became entranced with the sound, and wrote a bunch of stuff showing it off beautifully. I wish Id stumbled on these works back when I was in that chair.
