Big day yesterday, we did so many things that it is hard to - TopicsExpress

Big day yesterday, we did so many things that it is hard to remember them all! Bright and early start and we all loaded on the bus and headed for Sepilok which was a two hour drive away. As when travelling in any different country, the interpretation of the road rules is always interesting! At one stage on roadworks, there were three vehicles abreast in front of us, I dont know where any car coming from the other way was expected to go! In Sepilok we visited the orangutan rehabilitation centre, where the orangutans are in the wild, but can come in for feeds twice a day to supplement what they are finding in the wild. We witnessed three mothers with small babies come in for feeds as well as several other young orangutans, the monkeys move in at the end and clean up any food remaining. This centre also has a preschool section for orangutans which have recently left their mothers (about 6 years of age) to learn to climb the high trees swing on their own. After this we went to the Bornean Sun Bear conservation Centre, where we got to see the worlds smallest bear, the sun bear. After lunch we then travelled to the Kinabatangan River, where we were transferred across the river to our accommodation at Bilit adventure lodge. After a quick check in to our rooms, we headed off in boats for a cruise along the river to check out the wildlife coming down to the river to drink. We saw a crocodile, numerous birds, heaps of monkeys and a lizard or two, it was awesome! After dinner we went on a trek through the jungle and while we werent lucky enough to find any nocturnal animals, we were able to get up really close to some sleeping birds and get some great photos!
